I just got home from a short trip. When I went to bed, all three kitties snuggled up in their usual places. Little was on the pillow next to my head, Aubrey was on the bed at my left side, Curly on my right. When I woke up this morning, they were all in their same places. As I didn’t get up when they thought I should (early), they moved around a bit, mostly to get on my nerves, rouse me and make me get up. I didn’t, so they settled back down.
I was petting them and talking to them when I realized that Little had a boo-boo on her left cheek just under her nose. She never gets those. Boo-boos mean there has been a serious disagreement among the kitties. And in this house, no matter how much noise they make fighting, there is rarely any actual violence.
So there had to be a good reason. I started thinking…it had to be a major issue that they disagreed about.
Only one thing came to mind…Who does Mom like best?????

Here’s my reconstruction:
Just after I left…
Aubrey: (sitting in the middle of the rug, looking satisfied) Mom likes me best. I know it. She takes me on trips, she buys me good stuff, she lets me go outside almost whenever I want, she gives me hugs…
Little: (perched on the top of the cat tree in her high spot) You are wrong. You are stupid. You know nothing. Mommy absolutely loves me best because she is always picking me up and kissing me on the head (which I don’t like but I tolerate) and she buys me Special Food and feeds me all by myself so I can eat however much I want. And you only get the LEFTOVERS!!!
At this point, Aubrey zooms up the cat tree and whacks Little on the face, making the boo-boo happen.

(At this point, the cat tree is inhabited by two very big, heavy cats and one little one. I am surprised it did not capsize but it is very sturdy.)
Little: Don’t worry, my faithful dumb defender. I am injured but I am strong. I can take him!
Aubrey: (turning to face Curly) WTF!?? Curly, you are just stupid! I will kill you!!!
Curly: (scrambling back down the cat tree to the floor) Beautiful One, I am here for you if you need me!
Little: (taking a swipe at Aubrey) You will NOT hurt the dummy! Just admit that Mommy loves me best!
Aubrey: (as he stages a dignified retreat to the floor) Never!
That’s what I think happened.
Ellen will have more adventures of The Cat Chronicles next week!
